August Lyceum Series: Katie Condon – The Body In Poetry

August 15 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm CDT

Welcome to the lyceum. These free, monthly workshops are held on the third Saturday of the month, and offer writers of every genre and skill level an opportunity to learn, experiment and develop their craft. We hope you’ll join us!

In this generative workshop, we’ll consider the body from many angles—disability, queerness, illness, pleasure, trauma, ecstasy. We’ll discuss how to avoid essentialism and sentimentalism in our poetry by focusing not on what we know about our bodies but instead on the many mysteries contained within these fleshy vessels that carry us through our one precious life.

Katie Condon is the author of Praying Naked. Her poetry has recently appeared in the New YorkerPoetry Magazine, the Oxford American, and the 2025 Best American Poetry anthology. She is a 2025 National Endowment for the Arts fellow and serves as an assistant professor of English at Southern Methodist University.
