By observing both the world and yourself\, you’ll craft characters that don’t just exist on the page—they come alive. \nBahar Momeni\, born in Iran\, is an award-winning writer\, poet\, and human rights activist. She is also a Ph.D. candidate in literature at UT Dallas\, where she teaches literature and creative writing. Bahar‘s work\, published in Farsi and English globally\, addresses women’s resilience and everyday resistance themes. She received several awards\, including the “Outstanding Emerging BIPOC Creator Award” in 2023 and the “Future Art Writers Award” in 2024. Bahar is currently focused on her PhD dissertation on Diaspora Literature and debut semi-autobiographical graphic novel\, The Trees We Carry\, exploring identity\, displacement\, and resistance. \n  \n  \nSign Up for Interesting People At Parties

DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the lyceum. These free\, monthly workshops are held on the third Saturday of the month\, and offer writers of every genre and skill level an opportunity to learn\, experiment and develop their craft. We hope you’ll join us!\nWriting An Identity Not Your Own \nWriting An Identity Not Your Own will discuss one of the most contentious topics in creative writing: crafting a character whose identity is not your own. We will examine bias and how it might influence the text through stereotypes\, harmful storyline tropes\, character descriptions\, dialogue\, and more. This seminar is is open to writers of all genres and skill levels \nAlex Temblador is the award-winning author of Writing An Identity Not Your Own\, Half Outlaw\, and Secrets of the Casa Rosada. She received her MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Central Oklahoma and has had her creative writing published in Living Beyond Borders: Growing Up Mexican in America\, Speculative Fiction for Dreamers: A Latinx Anthology\, Colorado Review\, PALABRITAS\, D Magazine\, and more. When she’s not working as a travel and products journalist\, Alex is teaching creative writing seminars and courses for the likes of Macmillan Publishers\, The Writer’s League of Texas\, StoryStudio Chicago\, Women’s Fiction Writers Association\, and more. \n \nRSVP for the Lyceum Series
