Magical Realism with Alex Temblador
November 12 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Food that will make you fall in love, conversations with people long deceased, and heavenly assumptions: magical realism is both a literary and writing style that combines realism with fantastical elements which the reader is meant to take as “real.” In this seminar, we’ll discuss the history of magical realism, how to identify it in texts, and do some writing exercises that will inspire you to create your own magical realism piece.
Alex Temblador is the Dallas-based author of the award-winning novel, Secrets of the Casa Rosada. She has had creative work appear in PALABRITAS and Colorado Review, and is the founder of LitTalk, a quarterly author panel series in DFW. When Alex is not working on her next book, she’s teaching writing seminars and classes, giving presentations at schools and organizations, and working as a freelance travel and arts writer for internationally-recognized outlets.
Alex will also be moderating From The Writer’s Desk, a panel conversation on process and the craft of writing featuring A. Kendra Greene, Kathleen Kent, and Chris Panatier, on Thursday, November 19th. RSVP here.
